Arysta LifeScience Acquires Prothiofos Insecticide from Bayer CropScience
TOKYO – On Nov. 4, 2005, Arysta LifeScience acquired prothiofos, a
broad spectrum insecticide sold under the trade names, Tokuthion®, Bideron® and Toyodan® from Bayer CropScience for global distribution. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
"This latest acquisition from Bayer is a further step in extending the
Arysta LifeScience crop protection portfolio," said Dr. Chris Richards,
president and CEO of Arysta LifeScience. "Tokution®
will enhance our portfolio for growers of vegetable and fruit crops,
especially in Japan where it fits well alongside our existing products
such as Ortran® and Orthocide®. Prothiofos has potential for sales growth globally, which we will pursue actively."
Acquiring proven products like Tokuthion®
allows Arysta LifeScience to strengthen the portfolio offered through
the company's extensive distribution network. "Arysta LifeScience is
able to extend the life of products with established demand from
growers. This enables us to provide better service to our customers,"
said Richards. "Our company's latest acquisition again demonstrates how
we continue to provide our customers with an ever broader portfolio of
products."
With its global strength in product development, marketing and distribution, Arysta LifeScience will be able to make Tokuthion® and other prothiofos brands available to more customers around the world.
For Bayer CropScience, the divestment of prothiofos forms part of its
overall portfolio management strategy, which includes a reduction in
the number of active ingredients in the company's portfolio. Bayer
CropScience aims to reduce the number its active ingredients from 113
in 2002 to 93 in 2008. Prior to the divestment of prothiofos, Bayer
CropScience has already divested the insecticides azocyclotin and
amitraz to Arysta Life Science in the course of 2005.
